Third Deck Approaches Completion
(Re-posted to get back to where I was. Post the hosting provider change.)
*Finally*!
Managed to be sufficiently recovered from the spate of colds we've all had, to put the final push to getting the main deck finished.
Earlier this afternoon, I put the first coat of oil on. Would have put a second and third but (a) didn't realise how little decking oil I had when I started and (b) consequently had just enough to get the 1st coat done. Tomorrow nights task for two and three I suspect.
I'm currently: stiff, sore, *very* tired and smelling slightly of turpentine.
As I'd left the deck in a near finished state for several weeks, the decking had started to weather. So required a solid belt-sanding. Which is the main reason for the first three of the prior complaints.
Just a couple of pics to show off:
For those that care or are curious? The timber is that recommended by the landscape architect: "Swan River Red". Bought from Bunnings of all places. Natch of the 3+ Bunnings stores in Canberra, the only one that stocks the stuff is on the far side of the city. Personally, I reckon the timber is Jarrah, albeit by another name.
Sure is tough enough to be Jarrah. I pre-drilled the decking nail holes, but did try nailing through one of the off cuts out of curiosity. Ha. Penetrated maybe 5 mm before bent nail.
Enjoy!
