Evening All,
apologies for the intense silence recently. Been very busy with the new job I
mentioned a few weeks back. Which as you may have surmised from a recent
response included a week long trip to London for a sprint with my two
principal co-workers.
So where am I now?
With a company called Canonical. You may have heard of them? I understand that
they sponsor a relatively unknown Linux distro called Ubuntu. Amongst other
things.
:-)
One of those "other things" is where my role comes in: launchpad.net
I'm one of the "Launchpad and Landscape Operational Systems Administrators"
aka LOSA.
If you're *really* keen to get an idea of what that means, you can listen to a
podcast with my fellow LOSAs from just before I started:
http://news.launchpad.net/podcast/launchpod-episode-5-gnomedo-and-launchpad-sysadmins
So how is this relevant to awffull?
One of things that'd always been a minor irritant to me personally is that I'm
fundamentally "the gatekeeper" to awffull.
Which is both privilege and PITA. ;-)
At risk of sounding like a sales pitch, one of the things I've *really* come
to like about launchpad, as I've gotten to know it from the sysadmin side, is
how it makes it SO much easier for anyone to more or less hook in and do stuff.
Better. It makes it dead set easy for me to share (via groups) the power as it
were. There are lots of other nice features too that I'm really keen to
exploit as well. Blueprints (aka project direction plans) & language
translations spring to mind...
It's not all joy, there are some things that could be better (and the pace of
improvements/change is incredible!), but I'd like to at the very least, elicit
discussion, on a possible move to launchpad for the project as a whole; or at
least in large part - this list being the major holdout.
At this stage, all I've done is a basic project page, and converted the code
trunk from Subversion to Bazaar and pushed that up.
So have a play, or not. Let me know what you think, either privately or on
list. There are no wrong opinions here!!!! :-D
The project page is here:

Cheers!
- Steve
